Lesson - subclusters

Hello everyone

I tried to set up a subcluster in the lesson activity as described in the Moodle documentation (create a cluster and wrap a group of questions with a Content page and an End of Branch) but it doesn't work. When I simulate as a student the lesson goes from the first content page directly to the content page after the cluster, skipping the cluster and subcluster. I added my setup as an attachment.

Do subclusters simply not work? Or is there something wrong in my setup?

Thanks in advance.

This is the demo i tested and it correctly pulled one question from the sub-cluster and all three from the main cluster.

The differences in the setup i can see are:
  • My intro page jumped to the cluster and the cluster jumped to "unseen question within a cluster".
  • The sub-cluster content page jumps to itself (i didn't change it)
  • My end of branch for the sub-cluster linked to the sub-cluster content page.

It does get messy tho if you are checking the lesson jumps to unseen questions and you've actually seen the questions already because you're testing.

Some suggestions:
  • For testing purposes in the lesson settings > Grades section, ensure Practice lesson and re-takes allowed are set to Yes.

  • Between tests, completely exit the lesson and re-enter it so nothing is remembered.

Hello Bob

Thank you so much for taking a look at it.
I tried again with the same set-up from your screenshots and I logged in with a different student account to test the lesson.

Unfortunatly, it still doesn't work in my course.
Now the questions from the cluster are showing in a random order, but the system skips the subcluster.
I have no idea what could be wrong. What version of Moodle are you using? I'm using 4.1.

That looks right. Im running 4.4, but have also tested on 4.3. I dont recall seeing any cluster based bug fixes recently, but you never know.

If you feel comfortable, you could backup that activity only and send it to me to test on my end. If so, DM me for an email address you can use.

OK, so having looked at your test, one thing I got wrong in my original example is to make sure the start of sub-cluster content page jump is set to cluster as shown below.

Without this, it kept pulling the three cluster questions correctly, but always pulled the final sub-cluster question and never the other two.

Other than that it worked correctly. Give this tweak a try and let me know how you get on.  If it doesn't work, I'll poke around in the Moodle Tracker and see if there has been a bug fix between 4.1 and 4.3 that might explain why it's not working for you.
