Looking for... polling and commenting in one activity

Hello, I'm looking for any ideas on incorporating Polling and the ability to leave comments all together in one activity.

Choice activity is fantastic, and would love to have the "comments" capability in that activity where users could discuss the poll/choice activity without having to leave it and go into a forum.

I've tried embedding H5P into a glossary entries so users could do the poll, and then comment on the poll directly below it. My issue was the core H5P keeps resetting everytime the user returns to it.

Questionnaire is great -- users can see the results, but I'd love for them to comment directly on the page. Currently I've added a link at the end of the survey to a HotQuestion for users to further discuss.

But I'm thinking there might be other better ways to integrate the 'discussion' and the 'polling' together in one location and am looking for any ideas/suggestions.

Thanks!

Hi John,

You might give the HotQuestion plugin a try. What you descirbe is exactly what it is capable of. It includes the normal Moodle Comment capabilty so student can make remarks directly to each question/poll item added by each students. It includes heat/voe/poll, the teacher gets to decide wht to call it, but the more votes something gets, the higher in the output list it gets placed.

You can try it out here: https://www.drachels.com/moodle311/login/index.phphttps://www.drachels.com/moodle311/login/index.php

Log in as teacher or student, details on the login page, and go to the, HotQuestion Development Course. Try anything already there and you are welcome to add new stuff to see if you can get things to work like you need them to. Note, myself I usually log in with teacher and three students by using four different browsers at the same time, (Firefox, Chrome, Edge, and Opera. Sometimes I even add another with Google Chrome.) so that I can see immediate effects of what I try.

Thank you Al. I did a few tests and got close to what I'm looking to achieve. Instead of students submitting their own questions, I've submitted 4 initial question and these are the 4 I'd like the students to vote (rate) on and discuss. Do you think it might be possible for a student to have permission to view and rate, but not to add new questions?

When I "close" the Hot Question session, and still allow 'view', then it visually is what I want to achieve, but it didn't appear possible for a student to rate once it a close date was enabled. Another option I tried was to allow the mod/hotquestion:view permission, but not allow the mod/hotquestion:ask permission, but the ask permission seems to be needed in order to enter the activity.

Thanks for any insight on if I'm going in the right direction or maybe not using it as intended. Thanks!

"I've submitted 4 initial question and these are the 4 I'd like the students to vote (rate) on and discuss. Do you think it might be possible for a student to have permission to view and rate, but not to add new questions?" - When you create the activity, set the, Approval required, to Yes. This does not keep a student from submitting an entry, but it will immediately make it unreadable to anyone but teachers, managers and admins. Tell students that when using this activty, they should elect to set their preference for, Unapproved question visibility, to, Hide unapproved questions. You can also just have the teacher, Remove, any unwanted entry by a student.

"When I "close" the Hot Question session, and still allow 'view', then it visually is what I want to achieve, but it didn't appear possible for a student to rate once it a close date was enabled." - That is correct. Students can rate ONLY when the activity has NOT been closed.

"Another option I tried was to allow the mod/hotquestion:view permission, but not allow the mod/hotquestion:ask permission, but the ask permission seems to be needed in order to enter the activity." - Again that is the correct behaviour that keeps guests from making entries.
