Hello All.
I am hoping what I am looking for is possible.
I am trying to make the length of my course page smaller.
Tightening in up each item.

Please look over these screenshots:

Thank you.

You can make a lot of changes using CSS. At the top of my Moodle Notes web page, in the Moodle 4.2 section, I give you the CSS I use. This makes my Moodle look like that below.

Hi Rob - Not an answer to your question but sharing my experience:

My first reaction when I saw the icons in Moodle 4 was similar: Can I shrink them? Can I reduce the padding? I tried tinkering with CSS, but I wasn't too happy with the result. I figured Moodle HQ did some UX analysis and usability testing during the major design shift from version 3.x to 4.0, and I cannot do anything like that myself. Before long, I got used to the new look, and I navigate the course homepage differently than I used to (the Course Index navigation is quite nifty). Also, I haven't seen any complaints about icons or such from students in the MOOC I help to run (on a Moodle 4.1 site with the Boost theme).

People are still shaking heads - luckily in their own corner. Take a peek at User experience (UX).

This is my take on the affair: A whole army of developers who are not Moodle users deciding on the future of Moodle... I'm counting on theme developers to straighten the scene. I don't have the time nor the skill for DIY like Rick does.

Rick, I am a fan of your collected works on "taming Moodle UX". (See the ratings of the corres. posts.)

May be you are right about the skill level needed. Trying to look at it more objectively, I see a hidden reason, why I'm not diving in. What would be your mental state, when your landlord renovated your apartment, a renovation you did not want, and you are about to undo it in DIY style?

Yes, yes, MDL-78195. Affects Moodle 4.3. For my grand children! We're still practicing the transition to 4.1 (LTS). Prod. running 3.9 (LTS).

Only theme developers can save us.

And I am always a fan of your comments, Visvanath. (As I recall, I owe you a Mac the next time we meet in your country. 😁)

Here is my favorite site for learning CSS (and other languages.). https://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp.

I actually live in an apartment with my wife. It's a very nice apartment, rather "modern" by some standards. However, some things were not correct for me. So, I installed new shower heads, some new closet shelving, dimmer switches, and removable wallpaper. So I guess I am kind of a DIY type of person. I am unaware if the apartment would approve these changes.

I love seeing and appreciate the work of theme designers. And I have learned a lot from them. However, I try to minimize extra plugins, so as long as I can make CSS tweaks to Moodle, I do this. Moodle has saved me. image%20%281%29.png

I fully agree with you Rick, everyone who has responded, you, Visvanath, Marie, and Ravi have all been helpful in their own ways. I appreciate the community.
Looks like I will need to learn the CSS. I am not a real IT person, I am chemistry faculty, but the only one at our tiny college that wanted to take on the admin of Moodle.
We are hosted by Open-LMS, so I am hoping to learn enough here so I can intelligently ask them for what I need.

Cheers,
-Rob

Rob, CSS is a lot like chemistry. You pour some code through the CSS, like pouring one chemical through another, and its properties are changed!

And even Moodle administration can be a lot like chemistry.  If you don't pick the right ingredients, you end up with one big mess!

Hi Robert and thank you for your post.

You will be happy to know we are working on addressing this request as we speak. We have been working with a large group of community members on designing changes to our activity cards that will help minimise their size whilst adding additional, frequently requested, functionality.

You can follow the work being completed via MDL-78195.

I hope this is useful.
