The Tiny/plugins/link was added for the moodle 4.2. I was reading that everything is switching to the tiny MCE.... something like that. I know that is not very detailed. I actually just deleted the directory, then upgraded from moodle 4.11 to 4.13 and everything fixed itself.
All is running great. Students are 'happy' to be back to math work.
