3.1 was long term support (LTS) so it is said that one
can hop from 3.1 -> 3.5 (is LTS also) -> 3.9 (is LTS also) -> 4.1

And after each successful hop, login as admin level user, Go to Server -> Environment (update componet) as a reminder of what you might have to do before the next hop.

How exactly did you upgrade? This is the official documentation: https://docs.moodle.org/402/en/Upgrading. Also read https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=356184 to get an idea what information you need to provide for the others to be able to help.
