Configurable Reports -- best practices and shining examples

I've got the "Configurable Reports" plugin and am beginning to explore it, but I find the examples given in the documentation a bit confusing and not helpful. I'm wondering if any of you have some really good implementations you might be willing to talk about share.

Example use case: a dashboard for Instructors that provides demographic information, course activity info, and a way to flag both super engaged and un-engaged participants.

Another example use case: a category-level dashboard that summarizes info about the courses in that category. Maybe a bar graph of the top most enrolled courses. Or a line graph of total enrolement in the category's courses over time with adjustable time scale?  A pie chart of the distribution of different profile fields like province?

Anyway, I'm sure lots of you have developed dashboards like this... I'd love to hear about your best practices and shining examples!
