Hi everyone,

Our work on improving the messaging experience in Moodle continues, and to ensure we include the perspectives and needs of our community, we’re asking community members to complete a short survey, linked below.

This survey aims to gather information about the messaging tools currently being used, and the appetite of organisations to integrate 3rd party messaging tools with Moodle.

The results will help us understand the messaging landscape and trends in the way organisations use messaging as part of their teaching and learning, allowing us to better support messaging in Moodle LMS

You can take the survey by following this link: https://c7slel7jlte.typeform.com/to/XQQjIFu6
OR through scanning the QR code below.

Many thanks,
Setara Singh, Senior UX Researcher

Hi everyone,

There's still time to share your feedback and perspective in our Messaging survey, and help us improve the messaging experience in Moodle. The survey will close on May 9th, so if you haven't filled it out yet, this is your chance. The more members of the community we hear from the better, so we'd love to hear from you!

Many thanks,
Setara Singh, Senior UX Researcher

Hello. Thanks.
Interesting and quite "futuristic" findings...
I hope, however, that Moodle messaging - however basic - will not be scrapped or abandoned by the HQ, but retained for basic purposes, for smaller sites etc. And that any external integrations can be added as a feature (advanced feature? another alternative in the admin settings?) for more advanced communications IF the admins and organisation running a given Moodle site wish to take this opportunity..
Kind regards,
Przemek

PS. One aspect of messaging that interested me recently was that the specific places / contexts (e.g. courses) were not included in the body of the message, thus it often was and is difficult to quickly associate the message content / notification with the precise source from which it has come. I have added this tracker issue https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-77372 ("Messages sent from course contexts should include links to the pertinent pages") to indicate the problem.

Hi All,
Before we make any changes to Moodle’s existing internal messaging, we want to make sure anything we do is fit for purpose and informed by research. Which is part of the work Setara and the team are currently undertaking. In this context “messaging” not only means Moodle’s existing messaging functionality, but also notifications and other methods by which LMS users are notified by events in Moodle LMS.

Integration with an external messaging system is a part of this solution, not a replacement.

Cheers,
Matt Porritt
