I have created a new role based on Guest, and added some more capabilities. But, when a user in a course is given the role, it still says "No roles" in the participants list, when the user himself is viewing it.
Others can se the correct role. I think this is a permission the role needs, but cannot find it.
Site Administrations -> Search for "profileroles" -> Check your custom role
Custom roles you create will show up in the list of course participants if you check it in Profile visible roles
