Payment gateway that accommodates cross-border transactions

Good day,

We are currently in discussions with a certified Moodle Partner to set up our LMS on Moodle 4.0. We are having some trouble identifying a payment gateway that will allow us to sell courses in USD, but receive settlement of paid funds into our South African bank account. (We are aware that PayPal has a means of paying out into South African bank accounts, but we would like to consider other alternatives too, if available.)

Could anybody on this forum perhaps guide me in the right direction? Any advice would be appreciated!

It seems obvious, but you did not mention it, so have you considered the Stripe payment gateway?

Hello Justin,

Thanks for your response. My apologies, I should have mentioned our findings on Stripe.

We've indeed looked at Stripe and it seems perfect for what we need! Except that South Africa is not on their list of serviced countries, so we're unable to create an account with them... (I've seen that they offer the Stripe Atlas option in such cases, but we do not want to go that route. as it opens up many new cans of worms.)

Hence, I sincerely hope that this forum can advise me on some suitable alternatives (or at least help me understand why none are available).

Indeed that is tricky. Your best option is to look at the different payment gateways in the Plugins directory:

And also at the paid enrolment plugins in the plugins directory:

Also there are some plugins that help you integrate your Moodle site with WooCommerce/Wordpress. There is bound to be a payments provider that works for Woocommerce (because its from SA). Look up Edwiser Bridge and also https://github.com/lmsace/lmsace-connect-moodle
