Sorry, no. PHP needs to be installed on the server. Most webhosts DO support PHP now, though, so maybe it's time to upgrade?

Thanks for the faster reply, I think every one like your program because your support is so faster. I have send my server an email ask any alternative for the solution. Since my server full support for MS ASP, CGI, Perl, and ODBC. Do you know any other "internet class scripts" that match my server?

Dear Martin,

The htmledit script used here has a bug or two line 60 word or letter 12.
This is part of the reason that my post just disappeared, I think. I may
have pressed the wrong key which sent me back to the previous page.
That may have been the end of my entry anyway but it certainly dissappeared
with the javascript crashes on load up.

I take the liberty of asking some general questions here. Answers to any
would be gratefully recieved.

  • How does moogle compare with the competition such as Manhattan
    that you mention above?
  • While moogle looks very good my biggest concern is the lack of what
appears to be a functioning Moodle community. Moodle seems (in comparison)
to be more of a one person show. Most of the questions are answered by
    you it seems.
  • Do you have anyplans to improve/systemise the support forums? At
the moment the forums are not on the forums page, but spread inside
courses, and there do not seem to be enough categories of forum with
one area that might be called "support." This is going to become more
of an issue when you complete your PhD and are earning big bucks with
    a software house or moogle.com.

The Movable Yype forums seem to work pretty well.
    http://www.movabletype.org/support/
  • The installation guide seems to be written for someone who has their
own server or at least command line access and sysadmin privelidges.
Do you have any plans for a more bullet proof "How to upload moodle
to a Web host," more bullet-proof installation instructions?
  • How big is the moodle install before the addition of course materials?

Thanks very much,

I am beggining to understand now. This course is the support forum. Cool.

The more I look around the more I think that this is a truly wonderful program.
The only worry is what happens when you graduate. And the lack of timed
quizes. Quizzing is big in CALL at the moment. It is not as serious as in
other courses but merely a natural part of learning things like vocabularly.

I am attempting to upload to my websever now. I am using the nightly dump
(is this the right word? Sounds gross).

There are still scripting errors on lines 60 and 402 (according to my IE6) of this richedit script.
I am using (or attempting to use) a similar module called htmlarea
http://www.interactivetools.com/products/htmlarea/

Timothy's questions

Tim,

a) Please post in an appropriate forum - your post is neither an installation problem nor about non-php hosts.

b) Moodle (not Moogle) started out as my own project but if you read around this site a little (as well as Sourceforge) you'll see there are a growing number of contributors. My PhD is about Moodle but Moodle is not my PhD - in fact Moodle development has currently slowed down while I'm writing a thesis.

c) Moodle.com will in fact offer commercial support for Moodle - I intend to make Moodle my full-time occupation.

d) The IE errors are a problem with IE - turn off script debugging in your IE preferences and you'll find Richedit works fine. Or turn off Richedit in your Moodle user preferences.

e) Documentation is always being improved - your help in improving these is welcome.

f) If my answering of questions bothers you I'll be happy not to answer yours. wink

I want to take you up on your comment:

While moogle looks very good my biggest concern is the lack of what
appears to be a functioning Moodle community. Moodle seems (in comparison)

you it seems..

I have been involved in the use and research of LMS etc.  for about 10 years and have never seen a more active community.

That Martin is so fast in answering many of the questions is much apreciated by all os us. (read the comments on this by many other users)

Dear Jacob Romeyn,

I am also very appreciative of Martin's fast response to many of the questions.
I am also very glad to hear that this is a very active community.

My comments above probably represent my ignorance of this community.
I am very glad to hear that I was incorrect, and ignorant, about this community.

I have been told that this is not the correct forum for discussing this issue.
I have started a new topic on this issue at

Try datacities.com ... these guys rock. $6.95 a month with unlimited databases, unlimted POP3 accounts, unlimited subdomains, and virtually unlimited space (they gave me a gig, but its supposed to be unlimited)

They have a great control panel which makes installing stuff a breeze.
