It depends on your theme, some have a custom.css setting in the admin section which will allow you to override the styles but you need to know css to do that and changing one thing often impacts something else, and you need to keep in mind the different devices being used.
If there are not settings in the theme I would be inclined to leave it alone. If you start hacking the theme code you will have to re-apply any changes you make every time you update the theme.
