Delete standard roles / archetypes?!

Delete standard roles / archetypes?!

Hello everyone!

I've got one (hopefully) simple question:

Is it totally okay, not really advisable or absolutely horribly wrong to delete the standard roles ?

Background to the question is that we use the standard roles but we have to make a LOT of adjustments.

We'd love to instead

1) create/import a new role with all adjustments, say "manager2"

2) DELETE the standard manager role

3) rename "manager2" to "manager" in the short name.

This wold be so much better to do - IFF it is save to do so. Otherwise I don't even know what could happen.

Can anyone tell me if this a feasible way to do things? Or should the standardroles never be deleted ever?

PS: deleting standard roles is not the same as deleting archetypes, right? Can achetypes actually be changed at all?

Thanks!

Maresa

I think it is OK to do this.

Or, you can edit the standard manager role, and change its archetype to None.

If you do this, then you are creating a maintenance job for yourself. Every time you upgrade to a new Moodle version, you will have to do your own careful check of the new capabilities, and work out what permissions you want for each role.
