GIFT Export - How to get rid of HTML codes?

GIFT is the only common format between Moodle and Talent LMS. We use both.

When exporting GIFT from Moodle, it inserts [html] and <p>, etc. all over. These html tags are not part of the GIFT spec, which simply then displays the <codes> preceding each answer, for example.

Does anyone know how to get rid of these unwanted html codes in GIFT export?

I've tried everything I can think of!

The GIFT format was invented by Moodle, so the spec is whatever the Moodle code does! (Yes, this has changed a bit over time, but Moodle will still correctly import files exported by old versions of Moodle.)
