missing H5P interactive plugin and content after 3.11 release update

missing H5P interactive plugin and content after 3.11 release update

Hello Community,

Using Moodle 3.11 (updated from 3.10.4) this morning (Monday, May 17), Boost theme.

Before the update, we previously used the H5P interactive content plugin (the 'black' icon), and created two question set activities:

Now, however, we discovered the two question set activities are gone from the site. The plugin info https://moodle.org/plugins/mod_hvp/versions indicates the latest Moodle version this plugin works with is 3.10

Is our assumption correct, that because the plugin hasn't been updated to 3.11 explains its absence and the absence of the 2 question set activities from our site? If not, where do we find the two? (We also used this plugin to create activities in another course site, which have also 'disappeared'.)

We have plans to open the first affected coursesite to a new user on Friday.

As a workaround for Friday, we could use Moodle's quiz tool and re-create the two quiz activities using it, but, ugh...that=re-doing what was already done and time to do again.

We could use the other H5P plugin (blue icon), but still, the previously created questions are missing.

Other suggested fixes?

Also, It seems there are less activities and resources to select from now when clicking the + button to add these to the site:

Comments? Explanation about why the above happened if we have not correctly identified the cause(s) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi!

I can't reproduce your error locally so I guess that's something related to your server. Have you checked what appears for the mod_hvp activity when you access "Site administration > Plugins > Plugins overview"?

mod_hvp activity in the plugins overview page

As in your site the mod_hvp activity (black icon) doesn't appear in the course activity chooser, it seems it's missing from the disk. So probably copying the files to mod/hvp again will help you.

Another thing you can do (once you get mod_hvp activity working), is to install the migration tool and move the mod_hvp activities you created to mod_h5pactivity (blue icon): https://moodle.org/plugins/tool_migratehvp2h5p

I hope it helps!

Kind regards,

Missing Question sets in H5P seems to be more of a H5P issue then a Moodle issue. BUt I am wondering which question sets you are missing?

Hello Gemma,

Thankyou for your reply. We are missing all questions created using the question set activity. The questions were a combination of multiple choice and true false.

Hello Sara,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, we checked "Site administration > Plugins > Plugins overview" before posting to this forum, below is the result, no non-core H5P.

Would really like to know what happened due to the 3.11 update.

Would you explain what you wrote, "by copying the files to mod/hvp again will help you."...how?

Am thinking of using the core H5P, and re-doing a few questions only to test it, but read issues related to the core H5P too. We used the non-core H5P initially because the core H5P wouldn't enable us to select the question set activity...only saw the elusive 'spinning wheel' that continuously spun and never resolved.

Thanks,

Hi!
It's weird you don't have the black H5P icon there with the "Missing from disk" message... As this icon is not there, I guess you've lost the activities you created too (but I have no idea how to reproduce this behaviour locally... I've tried to upgrade from 3.10 to 3.11 with the mod_hvp plugin installed and it worked as expected).

"Would you explain what you wrote, "by copying the files to mod/hvp again will help you."...how?"
What I meant with this was to install again the mod_hvp plugin following the same process you did in the past (I guess you probably used the "Install plugins" option in Site administration).

Regarding the core H5P, have you tried, after upgrading to 3.11, if you're still getting the error you mentioned?

Cheers,

Hello Sara,

When attempting to add the H5P activity via the '+ an activity or resource' to our site page, this new message appeared:

So, knowing that the blue H5P plugin didn't work for us, we decided to attempt to install the (black icon) H5P plugin again to our Moodle site, which worked now (didn't before, which prompted our first post to this forum), so now both H5P plugin icons appear:

Going back to the homepage of our course site..the activities remained in the Content bank before all our trouble began, but now the associated H5P activity appears twice on our site:

Further down our site we have another similar H5P activity, but only the blue H5P icon appears for it; no duplication for this activity as occurred earlier:

These two activities are a Pre- and Post, using the same questions, so, for consistency, we need to ensure whatever h5P colour icon appears on the site is the same; do you know if it matters which H5P plugin we use?

You will notice too the label for one activity reads Complete the activity and the other label reads Receive a grade; yet it is the same activity, so wouldn't one expect the same labels to appear for both?

Very bizarre; it seemed like when we were able to finally install the black H5P plugin, because the blue H5P didn't work for us originally, it 'triggered' the blue H5P plugin to  appear.

We are using the this plugin in another course site, but only the black icon plugin appears on it. Again, more weirdness.

This entire experience with the 3.11 release update and the H5P plugin 'issues' have been nothing short of bizarre, confusing, frustrating and inexplicable to try to explain to others why and what happened....and now working? Doesn't install much confidence with this plugin.

The Plugin seemed to have disappeared after the 3.11 release install, but now, all of a sudden, there it is? Weird, very weird.

Hello
We found that H5P interactive content can be edited from within Moodle but the location changed. In a course, a teacher can go to the "Content Bank" where there is an "Add" button that makes creating new H5P activities and resources possible.

OR, you can edit H5P files offline using the Lumi editor

Adam, created this very helpful video.

Thank you Doug; the point of our post was the original third party H5P plug we were using before disappeared after the 3.11 install (along with the activities in the Content bank we created using it). We had to use the 3rd party plugin previously vs the core because the core plugin wouldn't allow us to Add the question set activity to the site. The 3rd party plug in isn't even available to us now to reinstall in our Moodle LMS, so we're now using the core H5P plug in, but it's presented more problems in another of our course sites. If you wish to read this post, it's titled 'sage' in this forum.
