Randomize a set of questions

Randomize a set of questions

Hi all,

Moodle V. 3.8

We have some teachers who have set of questions. These questions are as follows:

the stem of the question

and then there are like four parts of questions for this stem (easy questions).

They have four to five alternative questions of the same kind.

They want to add them into their courses and Moodle should pick one question with all its parts randomly to each student to reduce cheating.

What they do right now is to make the whole thing as a picture which makes it difficult for students as they go up and down to read and answer.

Is there any idea of how to do this please?

I need your help and ideas as soon as possible please.

Thank you in advance.

HI Tim,

Thank you for the help.
This is part of what I need.

The question is actually a set of different question (description and then 3 to 4 question).
Imagine it is a reading question where you have a short story and then 3-4 question related to this story.
and you have 6 copies of each of this type.

There is no option to randomly choose one full category instead of randomly choose a number of question within one category.

So the system should randomly pick up one set of story and its question to each student.

I hope this makes it more clear now.

Thank you once again.

I would suggest changing your questions so that the description is included. If you used the cloze question type, you could have the description and all questions in one single question that could then be randomized.

Dear Emma,
Thank you for your reply and suggestion.
Cloze question is a good option, but the issue with the sort answer is that the writing box for the answer is very small that you can't see what you have written if you write a sentence or more. This is good fro one or two words.

I think if Tim and the team working on the quiz activity study the idea or "random category" similar to the idea of random question.
So, a teacher can set a main category and under it sub categories. and in the quiz he asks the system to choose one full sub category for each student.

This could help solving this issue.

Thank you.
