Issue in upgrading to 3.10

I am currently using Moodle 3.9.1. I was trying to upgrade Moodle to its latest version 3.10 via softacalous in cPanel. The upgrading starts and it stops at 95%. Even after waiting for solid 5 hours there was no progress in the upgradation.

My server info is

cPanel Version86.0 (build 31)
Apache Version2.4.46
PHP Version7.3.23
MySQL Version5.7.32
Architecturex86_64
Operating Systemlinux

Path to Sendmail/usr/sbin/sendmail
Path to Perl/usr/bin/perl
Perl Version5.16.3
Kernel Version3.10.0-957.5.1.el7.x86_64

The error I found in the error log is

[10-Nov-2020 05:57:11 America/New_York] Default exception handler: Sorry, the requested file could not be found Debug:

Error code: filenotfound
* line 498 of /lib/setuplib.php: moodle_exception thrown
* line 2074 of /lib/filelib.php: call to print_error()
* line 5047 of /lib/filelib.php: call to send_file_not_found()
* line 44 of /pluginfile.php: call to file_pluginfile()

Please help me to upgrade to 3.10 and fix the issue in upgrading

Softacalous isn't an offical installer programmed by Moodle.org ... matter of fact it's commercial ... provided by hosting co's for customers. Softac is a perl script if under cPanel and code isn't open sourced.

The fact it reports 'requested file could not be found' indicates Softac messed up.
Suggest contacting your providers help desk.

Best of luck!

Thank you Mr. Ken. Can you suggest me some ways in which I can update. I am new to Moodle and using it for a school.

Probably the best way to learn to upgrade is to learn how to install Moodle yourself. Then you will better understand the major Moodle components that your server must have, such as the database and PHP. Often times, people who run Softac are on a hosted server that doesn't meet Moodle's current requirements. I am not sure if this is your situation, but let us know if you have a "hosted server" or a "VPS."

Hi Ken.
I've updated my moodle site via Softaculous today. When I try to open SCORM packages I receive that error:
Not Found
The requested URL was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

What should I do?
Thank you

Another Softac 'victum'. sad

Updated from what version? Did you check environment to see if where you are hosted meets what moodle requires to be updated to the version desired?

You did make a full site backup before attempting, yes?

If so restore your backup.

Or, do what you should do ... complain to your provider.

Hi Ken.
Thank you for the quick response.
I know you don't like Softac but it is the easiest way to install or update software for most people. sorry for that.
I updated from 3.9.2 to 3.10.
Yes, actually all requirements were met. https://prnt.sc/vj065i
I think about restoring but after that, will I see the same error?
Thank you.

"... the easiest way to install or update software for most people ..."

2 things ... 'easiest' ... yep ... all it takes is a click ... and the results were? .... 'most people...' that's pretty broad ... I take a different (perhaps un-popular) view of that ... most people who don't want to learn a little IT.   And for an 'educator' to choose not to learn!!!

Still ... did you contact your provider?

"... but after that, will I see the same error?"

How could I possibly answer that?    IF ... IF ... restore was done correctly then no.   If not, then ???

One of the things Softac did in past ... it put 'moodledata' inside moodle code directory and used an obscure name with 'data' at the end and hid it ... something  like '.asfghrewqrfdata' - see the 'dot' in front of folder name? (means hidden from normal view)

Refer to the config.php file at root of moodlecode for location and name of 'moodledata'.

You won't find that recommended anywhere in moodle docs.

Now if provider has 'one click wonders' for upgrading moodle available to customers, don't you think tech support of where you host should be able to help customers when customers use that 'one click wonder'?   Answer: yes they should.

Best of luck!

Thank you very much, Ken.
You are absolutely right about my approach. I'm sorry.
I respect what you say. The only thing, I'm not an educator, but trying to build a site for an educator. So I'm trying to do my best. I'm really trying to learn and improve.
Thank you.

Well, forum send doesn't seem to be working now ... but ...

Here's the official Moodle docs on upgrading:

https://docs.moodle.org/310/en/Upgrading

Remember what another Softac user found ... moodledata in code directory.   Location can be seen in config.php of moodle code.

As far as reverting back ... must have done a site backup ... at least moodle code and DB.   Those two pieces put back into place, if done correctly, should result in site back to original version.

https://docs.moodle.org/310/en/Site_backup

https://docs.moodle.org/310/en/Site_restore

while version number in links above say 310 .... the 3.9 should also apply.

Hi again.
I couldn't solve the problem. I deleted my moodle site and reinstalled but nothing changed. I still receive the same error when I try to run a SCORM.

Hi Ken.
My problem was solved by our hosting service.
They investigated the issue and it is caused by the following rule in the htaccess to remove the .html extension from the pages of the main website.

RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} /([^.]+)\.html [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /%1 [NC,L,R]

So Softaculuos is innocentsmile
Thank you very much

This time ... next time?  and there will be a next time as there is now a 3.11.  So the smiley might turn downward.

Best of luck for continued use of Softac and where you host!
