This isn't a Moodle issue as much as a MAMP problem. This may not be the ideal place to ask.

That is indeed an issue for the developer(s) of MAMP to sort out with Apple.  MAMP isn't registered with Apple as being a 'trusted' and 'approved' application.

Had the same thing ... was working on a very strange work-around for each item Mac would complain about ... if you note the one you hit was the first of 3 or 4 if I re-call correctly and it's really about launching the apache that comes with MAMP.

You might attempt to contact developers @

I have no idea about the problem you present.

I did make a video showing how I install Moodle in MAMP on my Mac. Maybe something in it will help.

Could be that not all affected ...

In my case, I had a Mac whose keyboard was disintegrating ... keyboard replacement cost almost as much a new + covid19 issues with getting to a vendor led me to order new mac .. vr below ... old mac was also Catalina only an earlier version when I did this.

Did a TimeMachine backup ... no issues ... then TimeMachine restore to new.   No issues reported on restore.

It was only when attempting to launch MAMP app.
That's not the PRO version.

Mac Catalina
10.15.8
No updates needed

No biggy really cause I have VirtualBox with guest OS's of Ubuntu and CentOS's to use to tinker locally when no network present.

Might be the direction for you to go, Mark!

2 cents!

Let's see, are you saying that your Mac caught a Corona virus?  😐

I have no clue, but I do think that MAMP is a little fussy (that's non-technical jargon) and maybe doesn't like a TimeMachine reinstall.  Actually, when I have purchased a new Mac and did a TimeMachine reinstall, some applications didn't work.  For example, Mail.  But the good new is that TimeMachine gets almost everything correct, which is amazing to me.

For reference (for Mark,) I am currently running MAMP (not Pro) version 5.1 (350).  No problems to report.  Port 8888, php 7.2.14 with Opcache, and MySQL 5.7.23, Apache.

Glad it worked for you Rick ... but that doesn't really answer Mark's question ...

Ok ... hold on to your hat Mark!

MacOS Catalina version 10.10.5 - at the time of the issue
Latest download of MAMP - moodle 3.9 from
https://download.moodle.org/macosx/
Moodle4Mac 3.9

Won't launch.

popup window MAMP cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verfied.
Followed by similar popups for ..
lib curl.4.dylib cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified.
same for mod_authz_owner.so then error report apache cannot be started
Ditto mysqld

In library/bin/ there is a curl-config script

  --version   output version information
libcurl 7.64.1

How to open an app that hasn’t been notarized or is from an unidentified developer

Running software that hasn’t been signed and notarized may expose your computer and personal information to malware that can harm your Mac or compromise your privacy. If you’re certain that an app you want to install is from a trustworthy source and hasn’t been tampered with, you can temporarily override your Mac security settings to open it.

In macOS Catalina and macOS Mojave, when an app fails to install because it hasn’t been notarized or is from an unidentified developer, it will appear in System Preferences > Security & Privacy, under the General tab. Click Open Anyway to confirm your intent to open or install the app.

Switched to Nginx .. finally got started

The manual page at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/crashing.html contains
information that should help you find out what is causing the crash.
2020-07-05T16:05:55.6NZ mysqld_safe mysqld from pid file /Applications/MAMP/tmp/mysql/mysql.pid ended

The VirtualBox I had on same machine ... restored with Timemachine ...  did not have
any issue.   CentOS 6 and CentOS 7 with multiple Moodle versions prior to 3.9 ... could practice git upgrades
of those upgrades to PHP and MySQL or switching to MariaDB.

So, for me ... this issue put the final nail in the MAMP coffin for me.
Won't miss it ... will learn more with VB than I ever would have with MAMP.

Again ... my 2 cents.

Hey I fixed this by going to System Preferences - Security Settings- Open the application again and there will be a pop up box where you can click open anyway smile
