Ability for "view only" on PDFs

Ability for "view only" on PDFs

Hello,

Is there a way to have PDF files upload within a course and make it so they are not printable/downloadable? We have the documents copyrighted, but still do not want to make it "easy" for people to go and use. Therefore, is there a way to make it "view only"?

Hi Rachael,

The printable document format (PDF) was specifically designed to be downloadable and printable. However, it is possible to add restrictions to PDF documents to prevent printing and passwords to prevent unauthorised viewing. These can be implemented with PDF conversion, editing, and management software, e.g. Adobe Acrobat DC.

I hope this answers your question.

Yes, but this still will not prevent a student from taking a picture of the PDF with their smartphone.

Matt,

Thank you for your feedback! What are the steps I need to take to add the restrictions/passwords?

Matt might reply soon. Until he does, have you considered doing an Internet search like so "pdf passwords and restrictions"?  You are bound to find an answer to your question.  Your question seems to be more related to Acrobat than to Moodle.
