Adding missing string translations

Hi, 

We're using themes Adaptable and Essential in Moodle 3.5

We installed the French language pack, but there are several translations missing, so we are still seeing some English words.

What would be the easiest way to add the missing translations? Seems that they can't be added through the UI as string identifiers are missing in the French language pack.

Hi Jelena,

The first thing to do is to go to the respective pages with Adaptable translations and Essential translations, and from them, you can go to the dedicated translation pages in AMOS (after login there), to put your translations in (coherent with existing ones).

Once done, it will be approved by the French maintener, and integrated in the main french language pack, and available in your site (and all other people in the community), after (automatic) upgrading of the language pack smile

Hi Jelena,

If you don't see the string identifiers in AMOS, chances are that the strings are hard coded in the theme. You may need to contact the authors to have them fix it.

You can reveal the source of the strings by going into Site Administration -> Debugging adding a checkmark to Show Origin of Language Strings and saving. Then add either ?strings=1 or, if there is already a question mark in the URL, &strings=1 to reveal the origin of all the strings in the page. Note that the string parameter must appear before any hash tag (#).

Don't forget to turn this off when you are finished using this feature.

Hi,

Just worth to note that some strings identifier are not shown, like for content of pulldown lists.
I'm nearly sure they are other cases, but don't remember which ones exactly...

There are 1194 English language strings inside the current version of the Adaptable plugin, and 93% have been translated into French.

You can contribute with some of the missing translations.

The French language pack maintainers are very friendly, efficient and smart folks, and they will most likely appreciatte if you can help them with grammatically and textually correct translations.

If you can include screen images of the French-course-pages with the untranslated English words, someone can then easily diagnose wether the cause of your issues are missing AMOS translations or hard-wired strings.

Thank you, Who should be contacted if missing strings are found that are not in the language pack (not in AMOS)? as I already took a creen shot in debug mode for them.

If it's :
  • a plugin, the plugin developer
  • a core Moodle component, you should post on dedicated component's forum, and (or) create a tracker item for that
