we have used the journal module on past courses to allow students to reflect on their learning. what we like about this module is that it is called a journal rather than an assignment or a wiki or a blog (even though we can use these for the same purposes) and it encourages students to keep it as a daily/weekly record of what they feel they have learnt on the course and how they feel they are progressing. we need an area for reflective learning which is called a journal which allows students to keep a log, and which the tutors can view and possibly comment on separately without being able to insert comments into a document which is personal to the student. this is a very important learning tool for us and it would be a pity if we should lose it completely.
