adding new users error to 2.6.2 version

error message:  Exception - Call to a member function getAttribute() on null

When I try to add a new users manually it gives me this message.  I need to know if there is a method other than upgrading to fix this problem.  Users have just started on new classes for this session and I don't want to risk data lost for the users.

I know it's not what you want to hear... but Moodle 2.6 has been completely unsupported for nearly five years. I'm not giving you a 100% assurance it will fix your problem but you need to seriously think about upgrading. There have been LOTS of fixed and changes since then.

Regardless, you need to switch Debugging up to full developer level and get a complete trace for that error.
