Online examination login issue

Online examination login issue

We have recently upgraded our LMS from 2.9 to 3.7.1+

While we were in 2.9 version, we were able to conduct online exams successfully for over 270 students at any given time.

but after the upgrade 3.7.1+, we are facing difficulties in logging to moodle (attached error message) and loading pages of the lms.

This error comes as soon as users/students trying to login to moodle. (generally when there sre 30 logins or more at once)

Can you please let us know whether there is any connection of upgrade of lms with this issue?

Hi Nadun

The obvious path is to follow the hint "the database is overloaded", since the server pulls a lesser load. Your case could be complicated if you still use the adaptive mode plug-in as discussed here: http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=389683. If I understood Tim correctly, this plug-in is not maintained anymore. Are you sure it allows you the wide upgrade from 2.9 to 3.7?

On second glance the issue may not be connected to the on-line exam at all. You say, people can not log in. What is their authentication method?

Its through wifi devices which can accommodate 100 users per device. we 3 of those devices in 3 different location at the same premises.
we have 60Mbps connectivity and we host our moodle in an online Bluehost account

But your network and the server were exactly the same when you could have 270 students taking the exam, right? So, unless you suspect something could have changed there, the upgrade is the main suspect. No, my question was, how do students authenticate? Since you said, "This error comes as soon as users/students trying to login to moodle. (generally when there are 30 logins or more at once)". For possible answers, see https://docs.moodle.org/en/Authentication.

Yes the network and server is same.
Do you mean there is a issue with upgrade?
Authentication goes as manual accounts with separate username and password for all users.

Is that error message the only thing you see when you go to the Moodle page it does it appear intermittently?

Have you checked your config.php file to see if the database name, location, username and password is correct after the upgrade?

Hi Jon,
That error comes only when bulk of students (over 60) tries to log into moodle at the same time.
It never happens when they login time to time.
Yes we have checked the confi.php and everything related to that is fine.

I can't say anything - I am not sitting on Bluehost. You have to come up with hypothesis and we can help you to prove or disprove them. Right now you say everything remained the same except for an upgrade. Before that 270 students could log in at the same time, now not even 30. Where would you look? Have you documented the upgrade? Can you restore Moodle to its original state?

Hi Nadun

Could you solve this problem? It would be useful to people in the Hardware and performance forum, if it was performance related.
