Debian 10 'buster' just released [1] could we compile the versions of Moodle which are "buster' compatible"? I am interested not only in the currently supported versions (3.5 LTS, 3.6 and 3.7) but also in the older versions, say starting from 2.7 (LTS).

Debian 10 did a long jump in PHP, from 7.0 in the previous version to 7.3. The MariaDB version is now at 10.3

Basically, PHP 7.3 is your issue (Mysql 5.7 / MariaDB 10.3 is supported since Moodle 2.9). The situation is in this document https://docs.moodle.org/dev/Moodle_and_PHP7.

"PHP 7.3 can be used with Moodle 3.6.4, Moodle 3.7 and later releases."

So, significantly, not 3.5!
