Hi,

I am trying to add a glossary in an Indian regional language. When I change site language to that language-here Telugu,

yes I do get alphabets in that language. 

But, when I add a term it is not displaying under that particular letter. By the way when I click on a letter all links on the letters disabled. 

I thought this might be the problem:  unlike in English, in Indian regional languages each letter have 16 variants. 

Please guide me.

Is it possible to add a screen shot? You lost me with the "each letter have 16 variants."

These letters are available in the langconfig file:

(I can't see what I'm doing, because I don't have the indic fonts installed (yet))

Please find attachment here. Sorry for my poor communication method. Here the concept displays and relate to correct letter but in the alphabet list if you click that alphabet its not visible. (Actually in learn moodle practice course, I am trying this.)

There is nothing wrong with your communication method - it's just difficult.
Would it be possible to have an entry for every variant of a letter? I wouldn't be surprised if Moodle doesn't understand the concept of variants of a letter and just assumes all these variants are different letters.

I count 54 letters in the Moodle alphabet and on https://www.quora.com/How-many-letters-are-in-the-Telugu-language I found that there are 753 letters. It's a bit much to be practical glimlach
I found that the locale setting in the language pack was wrong (you probably don't see dates correctly in you calendar) and fixed that. I'm not sure if that is used for sorting somewhere. Tomorrow that change should be propagated everywhere...

Coming to the issue, yes each letter from క to క్ష for each letter we have 16 variants. For example we will take letter క (pronounced as ‘ca’ in caught) here are the variants of letter క  :

క     కా   కి    కీ    కు    కూ    కృ    కౄ    కె     కే    కై     కొ     కో     కౌ  కం    కః 

So here, when I mentioned the word   కాకి  it should be shown under క  letter page. Which is not happening, and when we click on a letter all links disappears.



If you observe here the links to letters are disappeared. When you click on a alphabet. /letter.

I installed indic fonts on my computer, so things are visible now glimlach
I looked at the first 3 characters in your example:
క కా కి
and converted them to their UTF8 code:
e0b095 e0b095e0b0be e0b095e0b0bf

As you can see, they all start with the same byte (e0b095), but they are of course not the same.

I also looked at the disappearing link you mentioned by creating a test course in Telugu, with glossary and 3 Items: క కా కి . 3 variants, which should all sort under క, but the whole alphabet is one link. Obviously something goes wrong here and should be fixed. This might be the root cause of the problem, rather then the sorting - I don't know.

I filed a bug on https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-65989 where you can add further comments and vote for it to be fixed.

Thank you. Yes, క కా కి are 3 variants of letter క. They all should come under this letter, likewise for all other letters. as I mentioned earlier. Thank you for filing the bug. Hope it will get fixed asap.
