Repository Documentation

Greetings developers,

Your software has been both a blessing and an absolute nightmare.

First of all, as my two cents, advertising 3.6 as a stable edition is incorrect as it is lacking even the most basic site administration features. Regardless, I wish to access files that are within the server storage without having to upload them especially considering the upload limit. Every other edition has ways to do this, however, within the documentation there is no mention of the "create repository instance function", only what the final product would look like.

While I am here, I would also like to ask for native microphone support for quizzes along with an ability to allow guests to at least preview quizzes to get a taste of what our setup has to offer,

Thank you,

Anhad

I’ve just checked the date and it’s past noon on 1st April so I assume you’re being serious.

So...

Which site administration features is Moodle lacking?

The server files repository is well documented at https://docs.moodle.org/36/en/Server_files_repository. In addition there are many other repository options in core and number of additional repository plugins.

Guest access to quizzes is documented here: https://docs.moodle.org/36/en/Quiz_FAQ#Why_can.27t_people_.28guests.29_attempt_a_quiz_without_creating_an_account_and_logging_in.3F

From Moodle 3.5 onwards, you can record video and audio directly within the editing interface, and there are also a range of plugins that allow this.

Hello,

Thank you for the quick response. I had a look at that page and could find nothing on how the folders are to be linked or associated with the server directory. I am running moodle on Ubuntu 16.04 and did indeed try to create a folder called "repository" within the moodledata folder along with giving it ample permissions. However, when I try to add an audio file to a question from "server files", all I can see is the folder "System". To reiterate, I wish to add files from the server command line to be able to interface with in the moodle software.

As for the audio, my apologies, I meant to specify for the students to be able to record audio when answering a quiz.

Thank you for your response,

Anhad

So, as I said, the text editor in Moodle has allowed students to record audio directly via the browser since v3.5.

In addition, plugins such as Poodll allow this too. Poodll offers more flexibility in my opinion: see https://poodll.com/audio-assessments/ and https://poodll.com/poodll-recorders-vs-moodle-recorders/

For the respository, if you’ve set up the file system repo properly, it should show as a separate instance in the repo list; you wouldn’t access it via server files. See the image in this section of the docs, which shows the file system repo in the section called, in that example, Faculty (File system).

Do you mean you wish to be able to search for and upload/link files already on your server? The file system repo allows you to put files into that directory and be visible to all users who have permission in Moodle - kind of like a virtual drive. I suspect you’re maybe wanting something a bit different, possibly akin to the Dropbox or Google drive functionality. There is a WebDAV repo, which may work for you. See https://docs.moodle.org/36/en/Repositories

Thank you for your response,

Sorry for coming back to you so late,

That link helped a lot, maybe it was just me but even after hours of searching, I had not managed to encounter that page. Maybe making documentation more segregated for each version could help more.

As for the recording, it is available in the Assignments section but not in the quiz, and I'm probably asking for a lot but that is where I would like to add them.

Thank you for your assistance

So please enlighten us; what is it missing?
