Use of required, conditional question to password protect feedback

I have, several years ago, used a Feedback on the front page to gather responses from parents.  However, to prevent open access, parents were provided with a password.  The first question asks for this password.  The next page contains a required question conditional on the correct password being given in response to the first question.

I want to run a further feedback but have found that this little trick does not work now as it seems that required questions only prevent movement to the next page if they are not completed when visible.  If the required question is invisible, the user can just pass to the next page without providing an answer, and continue with the questionnaire.

I can't make all the questions conditional on the answer to the first as some of the late questions have their own conditional requirements.  Can anyone think of how I might be able to make this work?  I'm running Moodle 3.5.
