Hello Jean-Michel,

In the Formulas question type, the "Part's combined feedback" does not work as it should. Would you be kind enough to take a look at it?

The following example illustrates the desired behaviour:

  • Question behaviour: Adaptive mode
  • Penalty for each incorrect try : 33.33333%, i.e. 3 tries

Jean-Michel has worked hard to support the Formulas question. Everyone who uses the Formulas question owes him a lot.

It is important that elaborate questions like Formulas, STACK, etc. continue to be properly supported.

Well, I guess I have to explain why this fix is necessary.

Most question types have a General feedback and a Combined feedback. "General feedback is shown to the student after they have completed the question" (tooltip explanation), i.e. the General feedback is shown to the student after:

  • a correct response, or
  • a partially correct response (in Adaptive mode), or
  • an incorrect response... on the last try!

For example, if the Penalty for each incorrect try is set to 33.333%, the student has 3 tries. If the student's 3 tries are incorrect, the General feedback is shown... only after the third try!

This Combined feedback/General feedback is correctly implemented in all question types, except for the Formulas question Part's combined feedback/general feedback.

There is no reason why the behaviour of the Formulas question Part's combined feedback/general feedback should not be the same as that of the other question types. In fact, the present behaviour is faulty and quite inconvenient, and has to be fixed, preferably sometime in the next future.
