What is an 'anchor'? -- in plain English please.

Hi.  This may sound like a dumb question to some the more experienced here, what is an 'anchor'?  I've tried looking it up on Google searches, searches on Moodle pages and otherwise searches.  But I can't get a clearer idea than it seems to be something between a normal link and a bookmark.  Maybe it's just the Moodle word form what's called a bookmark in Frontpage.  Is this so?  If not, the what it is, please?  Thanks much.

Yep, it is an internal link, like a bookmark.

Maybe it's just the Moodle word for what's called a bookmark in Frontpage.

It is an HTML standard, a link from one part of a page to another. I don't know what Frontpage calls it, but here is some more information.

You are most probably familiar with hyperlinks (sometimes just called links) which create links from one page to another.

An anchor is a type oflink that rather than referencing a whole page...targets a specific part (ie, maybe a third paragraph).

An anhor link can be used to link to a specific part of a page to allow a user to be taken to a specific piece of information. This is especially useful on long pages where alot of scrolling is neccesary.

Hope this helps
