Layout of a course

Layout of a course

There is a lot of documentation on low level parts of Moodle but I am finding it harder to see how to design a site to make it clean and easy to follow. My students have English as their second language, often have little experience navigating English language sites and frequently use mobile phones. I am not after pretty- just a simple uncluttered screen.

I have tried a weekly based format but as I often plan a little extra, my weekly sections are cluttered with both covered and  unused material. I would like to try creating several  textbooks using the Lesson module, and use the weekly topics to point students to the sections we will cover and add quizzes for each week. I would need to add the textbook in an easily located place for a mobile phone screen.

Are there any guides out there for creating the start page?

I always find the KISS approach best.

The vast majority of my courses are topics based and linear.  Hide sections that are not needed and use the highlight option to flag the bits students need to concentrate on.

Hope this helps.
