Dropbox api v2 corrupting all documents on transfer

We are experiencing an issue where every single document transferred from Dropbox using the standard Dropbox repository is corrupting.

Users can authenticate into their dropbox account fine, see all documents and then select one for copying into Moodle. There is no visible error during the copy (to an assignment submission, or course resource etc...), but when you attempt to launch the document or image in Moodle it is 0 bytes and corrupted.

Dropbox repository had worked well for years, but I'm not sure if it was api v2 or our moodle site going full https or our upgrade to Moodle 3.2, or all of the above, that has caused this.

Any help would be appreciated!

We are Ubuntu 16.04.02 LTS, MySQL 5.7 and PHP 7.
