Mobile app connectivity issue

Mobile app connectivity issue

We want to start using the Mobile app for Moodle, however, I cannot connect to our site via the app.  I keep getting the "Oops!  We're having trouble connecting to...." error.  Connecting to the site through a browser on the phone works fine.

We do not have an https certificate, so are using http.

We upgraded to 3.2.2 and I downloaded the latest Moodle mobile app (3.2.1).  I am running Android 6.0 on my Moto G (3rd gen) phone.  According to one of the guys in my department the app worked before we upgraded from 2.8.  He was running an unknown version of iOS.

I have enabled mobile services and have that section in the admin menu and set things up per the documentation.  I am working with my IT dept in installing the Mobile app additional services, but the previous version did not have that and it supposedly worked.  Thus, I am dubious about the need, but going ahead with it anyway.

Guest access is disabled and only Authenticated users can login.  The only authentications I have enabled are Manual accounts, No login, and Web services authentication.  Do I need to have any other authentication methods enabled?

One of the forum posts I found mentioned that a login.php (?) file must be unlocked.  But cannot find the post again to confirm the name and have our IT check it out.

Looking through the FAQs, documentation, and forum, I understand that as an administrator I must set up a proxy to login via the app, the problem is I do not get as far as the login screen.

While I am an experienced amateur programmer, my expertise is not in html or Internet protocols.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.  (Sorry for the rambling.)

Hello,

sorry for the delay in answering.

Can you please send us the URL of your site so we can take a look? You can send it to mobile@moodle.com. Please reference this forum post so we know what it is about smile

Cheers,

Dani

Hi Dani,

I'm getting exactly the same error message as started on this post and here: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=349594 - the "Oops! We're having trouble connecting to https://... error."

Moodle version: 3.2

URL: https://test-moodle.uel.ac.uk

Authentication: CAS (Therefore you will not be able to login)

Fact is I'm unable to get past the connection screen.  I've followed instructions: enabled web services for mobile devices, edited "Moodle Mobile additional features" and checked the "Enabled" field, edited Authenticated user role and allowrf moodle/webservice:createtoken capability.

Could you help please?

Regards,

Remy

Hi Dani,

(And in case it helps anyone), found out the "Admin users, please read" section at the end of this page (https://docs.moodle.org/32/en/Moodle_Mobile_additional_features) is very important indeed.  Once we created tokens for admin users mannually, I was able to access the login page.

But I'm still unable to login and that goes for many of our test users (some not admins).  We all keep getting "invalid login ...".  Any thoughts?

Regards,

Remy

Again, in case it helps anyone...

The problem was resolved by finding and changing the value for "Type of login" which is in Site administration >> Mobile authentication (Moodle 3.2.2+).

Although the instructions here: https://docs.moodle.org/32/en/Moodle_Mobile_additional_features referenced changing the setting for this value, we couldn't find it under Site administration >> Plugins >> Local plugins >> Moodle Mobile additional features as was specified.
