Installing and upgrading help

I don't know anything about database work other than basic set up of a MySQL database and a user. I'm installing Moodle version 3.2.2+ 

I'm on Media Temple Grid service which is shared hosting. 

I've set up the database and user and begun the Moodle installation process. I'm getting this error before the final screen. 

"Error: Database connection failed

It is possible that the database is overloaded or otherwise not running properly.

The site administrator should also check that the database details have been correctly specified in config.php

Any help figuring this out and resolving it would be greatly appreciated.
