Hello Moodlers

Can some one please tell me where section 0 is coming from and how to get ride of it?
It appears to be empty and I can not navigate to it!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance

Section 0 is an introductory section that stays visible at the top of course.  It is a place to put things that students will need throughout the course - announcements, course forum, etc...it is core moodle.

Hi Emma

First off thanks for your response.

I think what is confusing me is as follows:

1) That I can only add/edit this section in standard Moodle Course Formats e.g. Topics but not in the NED format!
2) I can not actually navigate to it as such as it is always there at the top of all the other sections?
3) I was using it as a “Title” for my course for all other test courses but forgot to do so for this course!!!

If I edit this section and leave the Section name blank and the Summary blank and save it reverts to “General”
Regardless of whether I click “Use default section name [General]”

Or in short if I want to use the NED format...

I need to take care to name it so it appears as a name/title for the course and not as general/section 0

However it still has for me as of now no function/navigates no where/does nothing!!!

And here is the million dollar question…

Could I switch it off completely? wide eyes

thanks

Paul

This sounds like a bug in the format and probably needs to be reported on the plugin page (or directly on their github repository Issues page) for the NED Tabs format for the author to investigate and fix.

I think that maybe you need to contact the developers of the NED format.  After looking at the plugin page, they appear to be pretty responsive to questions/bugs etc.  As for the tabs not working in one course, I suggest looking at the course or maybe the category permissions.  It could be that permissions are set differently.  Also, maybe check that the sections aren't hidden by chance...

Hi Emma
I have done some more investigation.
The only thing I have discovered is this:
These guys are admins:
“Blah01” & “Blah02” and can navigate the tabs!
“redirecttest” & “exampleone” are students can not navigate the tabs!
*****************************************************

Apart from this I have more questions than answers…

I have eye balled the NED prefs again and they are identical for both courses.

*****************************************************

I have two categories:

Sample & Paid

The course the Tabs that are not working is in Paid category…

So I moved it to the sample category and it still did not work.

I double checked this by putting the course with the Tabs that are working from the sample category in Paid category!

It still worked.

So I think it is not something to do with categories!!!

Checking the preferences here:

Home / ▶︎ Courses / ▶︎ Paid Courses / ▶︎ FCPX Foundations / ▶︎ Users / ▶︎ Permissions

I find the following:

Block: NED Mentor Manager

Roles with permission:

Blind Profile Student
Web Services Manager
Student
Teacher
Manager

Block: NED My Progress

Web Services Manager
Teacher
Manager

Home / ▶︎ Sample Courses / ▶︎ FCPX NOT Pro / ▶︎ Users / ▶︎ Permissions

Block: NED Mentor Manager

Roles with permission:

Blind Profile Student
Web Services Manager

Teacher
Manager

Block: NED My Progress

Maybe you are some one else sees or thinks of something that I am missing…

Otherwise I will contact the developer beginning of next week.

thanks one way or the other

Paul

I am not familiar with NED but the permissions you mentioned do not sound related to the course format at all.  Is this only happening in a single course?

Hi Emma

Yes that is correct.

Only one course.

If you have any ideas I am all ears

thanks

I guess I would just recreate the course - surely would be quicker than all this time trying to figure out what is wrong!!

But, first I would look at the course and see if there are maybe some plugins in this course that are not in the other course.

Hi Emma

It is weird making the course from scratch means that the same problems turn up.
i.e. the tab navigation does not work.
The only thing that seems to work is:

Making a back up of the existing course that works.
Restoring it as a new course
Swapping out old content with new content.

I used to make DVDs many moons ago and this reminds me of that.
I bet I have missed one little link some where. But what the hell clown

thanks all the same

Paul

Are you using any plugins in the course that does not work that you are not using in the one that does?
