We have a course available in three different languages. Before our update to a newer release of Moodle, we had to indicate the preferred language for each seperate student, when applying someone to the course. This way we made sure the student would immediately see the correct language when logging in for the first time.
After our update, the field where you can indicate the preferred language has disappeared from the application form (see image attached), and you can only indicate the area a student is coming from. However, this does not mean the course will automatically switch to the language spoken there.
For example: the default language of our course is Dutch, the student from America. The language will not automatically change to English, because we have indicated the student is from e.g. New York. He will still get to see the Dutch language first.
For students, this is very confusing, more so because the language they get to see does not correspond with the other documentation they receive from us. Some even start the course in another language and get confused halfway.
Is it possible to add the language setting to the application form again, or make another change to arrange it that a student gets to see a pre-set language?

It is possible to set a user's language after saving the 'Add a new user' form. When you view the user's profile page as an admin, there is a preferences link which takes you to a page with a preferred language link. However this is a lot of clicks!
An easier way would be to upload users via csv file, as you can specify the user's language in the file. Please see the documentation Upload users for more details.

Thank you very much for your feedback. Glad to hear there are still options to set the user preferred language, although it is more work.
