Allright people, tell me. Which have you used and what are the advantages and disadvantages.

Which is your favorite?

And can anyone tell me the cost of BBB hosting?

Hello Stefan smile Great that you came from our Teaching with Moodle course to post in our Community forums smile  Just to say I moved your post into the dedicated web conferencing forum to get more specialised responses, although the Teaching with Moodle forum is a good place to frequent as wel.

I'll start the ball rolling with a few comments of my own:

  • BBB  might not be (just yet) as smooth as Google Hangouts or Skype but it is is open source and integrates nicely with Moodle.
  • We used to use Hangouts but found there are (were) limitations on who could participate and they needed a Google account (as you also need a Skype account for Skype) With BBB, as long as you are in the Moodle course then you don't need to sign up for anything else.
  • On the minus side, for the time being, there is no mobile app for BBB but I have every confidence that there will be soon smile

Hi Stefan,

I'm the product manager for BigBlueButton.  We recently posted an update of our project here: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=337869.

With regards to hosting, as BigBlueButton is open source (like Moodle), you have the ability to install BigBlueButton on a server at your organization and, like Moodle, enjoy all the benefits.

The developers behind BigBlueButton have been working on it for over seven years now (five years on the Moodle integration).  They are also working on a mobile client in HTML5 as well.  See: http://docs.bigbluebutton.org/html/html5-design.html

If you are using a Moodle hosting provider to host your Moodle, recommend you reach out to them directly -- there are companies that provide hosting for BigBlueButton as well (see http://bigbluebutton.org/support).

Warm regards,... Fred
