Hi Everyone,

We'd like to share an update on our progress with BigBlueButton, an open source web conferencing system, and its integration with Moodle.

Latest Release

Our goal with BigBlueButton is to provide remote students a high-quality online learning experience.  We've been working on it for over seven years and the Moodle integration is (by far) our deepest integration of any LMS.

BigBlueButton enables real-time sharing of audio, video, slides, chat, polling, emote icons, and desktop.  Classes can be recorded for later playback for students.

The latest release (BigBlueButton 1.0) adds

  • Polling
  • Auto reconnect
  • Improved video dock

This release marks our 15th release of BigBlueButton (we called it 1.0 because we are conservative smile ).  Here's a screen shot showing the default layout.

BigBlueButton supports many types of collaboration (one-to-one, small group collaboration, and one-to-many).  Here's a screen shot of a session sharing 15 webcams.

Latest release of BigBlueButtonBN plugin for Moodle

We've recently released BigBlueButtonBN 2.1.1, the BigBlueButton plugin for Moodle, which has the ability to copy recording links from previous courses.  Here are some screen shots of the integration

Moodle Integration

In addition to offering many options for customization, the BigBlueButtonBN plugin gives teachers and students can access recordings from a BigBlueButton session within Moodle.

BigBlueButton Recordings

The BigBlueButtonBN integration for Moodle is available from moodle.org, see https://moodle.org/plugins/mod_bigbluebuttonbn.  According to moodle.org there are  currently 3,869 sites using BigBlueButtonBN.  We're very pleased to see this adoption around the world (it's localized into over 25 languages).

If you want to quickly try the latest version of BigBlueButton, check out Moodle Cloud which has BigBlueButton built-in (up to 6 users and no recordings).  See: https://moodle.com/2015/07/06/moodle-launches-moodlecloud-free-hosting-for-educators/.

As always, we welcome your feedback on BigBlueButton and the BigBlueButtonBN integration for Moodle.

Regards,... Fred
