Android Mp3 recordings do not playback on PC web navigators

I came across this strange bug. When I record from an Android device (Samsung Galaxy S3 with Android 4.x and Chrome) and try to playback it on my PC (Chrome, Firefox or IE11), there is no playback. It's as if there was no recording at all. I'm able to reproduce this on Moodle 2.8.6 with the Atto editor and also TinyMCE. Also, the problem never occurs with pictures or videos.

Did I miss something?

Are you sure that the mp3 recordings are really MP3?

It sounds like the Android recordings are in a different format (3GP?) that most PCs can't playback.

The best way to deal with this is to install FFMPEG on your server and set PoodLL to autoconvert incoming audio uploads to MP3.

If you are not sure can you attach one of the recordings to a reply on this post, and I will look at it. There is a setting in the PoodLL filter settings which will show a download icon beside the player (for admins). I posted a screenshot of that.

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the tip. I forgot that Android devices generates a .m4a format. I will ask my colleagues if they are willing to try your solution.

Regards,

Melvin
