When are forum messages emailed?

I'm currently using moodle 1.4.4. I'm confused as to when new forum postings are actually emailed.

I can see that they are mailed every evening when the admin/cron.php is executed. But why then in the "forum" settings  next to "Force everyone to be subscribed?" if you click the help question mark it reads:

"When a person is subscribed to a forum it means that they will be sent email copies of every post in that forum (posts are sent about 30 minutes after the post was first written)."

30mins? but it only sends once the cron.php is exec'd no? unless there is someway to activate such that forum posts are emailed immediately?

Anyone know how I can do this?

The default setting for the cron to be run is every 10 minutes, the help appears to be written assuming a default setting on the cron. If your cron only runs once a day it will affect how often your forum posts are emailed out.
I'm not aware of anyway to make the posts send immediately but you could make your cron run more often to speed it up a bit.
