Upgrading question re: moodledata folder

Hi.

I'm upgrading from 2.7+ to 2.8.5+ I'm backing everything up and following the directions (I've upgraded once before a year ago so I'm no expert).  Anyway, in the Standard install upgrade instructions it says: "Dont forget to also copy over your moodledata folder / directory. If you don't you will get a "fatal error $cfg- dataroot is not configured properly"."

I don't recall moving my moodledata folder....just my config.php file.  I upload and extract the moodle upgrade. I'm sort of confused by this reference to copying the moodledata folder.

Can someone help me?

You only need to move the moodledata folder if you are migrating to a different server.  However, it is a good idea to copy it prior to the upgrade as a backup.
