I have modified annotation to solve the conflict with ratings. However, in the process I had some thoughts about how to improve the ratings and eliminate the form around most of the page.
I suggest eliminating the "Send in my latest ratings" button at the bottom. Instead, submit ratings silently whenever the user changes one of the drop-down ratings controls. This is easy to do with XMLHttp; the only reason against (at least that I can think of) it is the lack of support in older browsers (support is in IE 5, Firefox 1, Opera 7.6, and Safari 1.2).
