Thanks for the tip! I was able to look at /mod/quiz/db/mysql.php and find the versions updates that didn't happen. Then I put together my own patch file. I tried to track any down stream data manipulations as well. Hopefully I've got it covered now. Our problem originated with a development quiz module someone else installed on Moodle sometime ago that forced a version change.
