For true/false and multiple choice question types, you have identified the correct way to write them.
There are (at least) two other ways though, which might be considered less tedious.
  • Use a text editor (or even a word processor) to write your questions in GIFT format, which is described in the online help. After a bit of practice, you can even set up spreadsheets to generate GIFT format questions automatically.
  • Use the cloze question type, which allows you to write several MC or T/F sub questions within one question. The inline formatting required takes a wee bit of getting used to, but this is a very powerful question type when you have the hang of it.
