We have a database activity setup against different groups, and supervisors who are assigned to multiple groups.
When the supervisor tries to jump from one group to another, the list of students in the list view does not update automatically (they update after a page refresh).
Is there a specific setting that I have missed, is there a logical reason for it not refreshing or is this a bug?

No, no debugging messages. I wonder if this is to do with pages being cached.
Is there any way to turn off the caching of certain elements (or by looking at the documentation, changing it from an application cache to a request cache)?

Did you get anywhere with this? I'm experiencing exactly the same problems with a Database on 2.7.
I'm kind of hoping that our upgrade to 2.9 next month will get rid of it somehow.
I did check the Tracker issues below and, although people had similar problems, there didn't seem to be a fix.

Sorry, nowhere. . My production site still in Moodle2.6.
Will let you know if the group works properly in Moodle2.8 or 2.9, but, I am not expecting that.
Work around:
If you are using Moodle2.9 AND if you are NOT using separate group, you:
Create a menu field: 'Group', list all your current groups, set the field as 'Compulsory'.
Then students have to select group before they can enter a new entry.
