Hidden category

I am trying to hide a category, but it still calculates the points, not the percentage since it is uncategorized.

  • Hidden: if this box is checked it will remove a category from display and also from grade calculation. This is easy way to only add items to the gradebook after they have been graded. Since graded items that have not been categorized will automatically be assigned to "Uncategorized" you can set the "Uncategorized" category to hidden and then as you grade items move them to whichever category you like and students can then see their grade.

Re: Hidden category

Hi Dee,

Thanks for taking the time to post. Have you tried "log in as" for one of your students and then viewing the gradebook?

In the version of the gradebook that I originally coded there was a style applied to the hidden categories that "greyed" them out to indicate to the instructor that they were hidden. It seems that this was removed somewhere in the process so there is now no indication that a hidden category is actually hidden.

In the instructor view it still shows all of the grades including their calculations if you haven't changed the value of "show hidden items", however the student view should show only the non-hidden categories and the correct grade and calculation regardless of preferences.

To change this behaviour: in your "set preferences" screen change "show hidden items" to "no"

regards,
Jeff
