A good news for those fellow teachers, who uses Moodle quizzes for summative assestments, which should be help in a classroom by supervision of the teachers or their assistants.

It was always possible to limit testing to a classroom using an IP range, but many classrooms shared between different teachers and disciplines, or freely accessuble to the students, so students can get access to the quizzes in the teacher absense. It is possible to limit date and time too, but that requires editing the quiz before every classroom session (lesson etc), which is tiring. It may be usable with one exam quiz per course, but not with several summative quizzes, which should be available on many lessons. Even having registered unwanted access we won't was able to force teachers to edit date and time of 3-7 quizzes per course before each lesson.

All people, having similar problems, now has a new solution - block "supervised" and its quiz access rule. The block is for tracking you lessons (supervised sessions) and should be placed on the course page. Set up some classrooms (with relevant IP ranges) and you can plan, start and end lessons in it (optionally using lesson types if you have different quizzes for different lessons). With a setting for the typical lesson duration you can start lesson with just several clicks.  Quiz access rule allows you to set up quizzes, which can be attempted only during a supervised session (session in this classroom must be active, it should have allowed type and user must be in allowed group). You can also see logs for each supervised session, which can be useful for teachers using assistants to get insight about whats going on in their absence.

Thanks for the Andrey Ushakov for implemeting them!

Please write us was this block useful for you and what improvments you would like to see in further versions.
