First of all when making searches for free or paid lessons, search TOEFL exam preparation. Is TOEFL your only option? Are you seeking entry for a University or college in a native English speaking country, or employment that requires a good standard of English? You may well find that most establishments require either Cambridge TESOL qualifications, IELTS or possibly TOEFL. If so, you are now ready to be flooded with free resources of English lessons. But if you are seeking a full course, and you are not interested in self study, then you will have to pay for it. As teachers need to live with an income, just like you do.

Whichever exam you need to take, I recommend going to their own websites and finding the resources that they recommend:

Cambridge ESOL (now Cambridge Language Assessment): http://www.cambridgeenglish.org/

IELTS (International English Language Testing System, adapted from Cambridge ESOL): http://www.ielts.org/

All of them offer free practice tests and sample study resources for individuals to use. You cannot use them for online teaching or redistribute them to anyone. They sometimes also offer teaching resources.

The British Council also offers resources: http://www.britishcouncil.org/
