You have posted in the "feedback" forum - so i am answering for the "feedback activity and not for the survey activity...
What you see is just the "preview" view. If you logg in as a student it is with left margin. Changing the backround (colour) is not a option in the feedback-activity. But you could change the "theme" of your site... /Simon
