Hey, sorry for asking such a question. it's just my university Site staff asked me to upgrade and fix the bugs/mailserver problems of the moodle for my university .

is there a way to figure what is the version of this ?

 

i recieved a user pass for remote access as Administrator to the server which runs this site on a windows server using wampserver ,

but u can only connect when ur in university's local net obviously , coz i got the local ip,

and i wont be going to university till next week.

 

if i could know what version it is , i could just get ready and don't waste much time inside university,

 

Also , i am just a normal user in the site atm ,

gotta ask the Teacher for the admin user pass on the site too , coz  i need it for the backups .

It is Moodle 2.6 but I can't say precisely which release of 2.6 it is.

then the one who install it was right ,

teacher told me it's moodle 2.2 ,

but the one who installed it said i got the newest version when i install , i don't remember what version tho ,

 

so it's the newest version of 1 months ago .

 

Great :D should be Much Easier to update it to newest version and keeping it up to date for now :D

just need to fix the server/features problems now :D

No - I was referring to Pedram's site. There are ways to find out the version of Moodle even if you are not an admin, for example by finding a docs link and seeing which version of Moodle it takes you to. Pedram's site is definitely 2.6

The reliable way to answer this question, if you are the site admin, is to go to

Admin -> Notifications

then it tells you.

You are right Tim, but Pedram can't access this ATM

There is an old tracker item somewhere where the version information (once visible to all) was intentionally hidden to stop bad guys using exploits.  If they knew an exploit on version X, and it was easy to determine if it was version X, then it just made their job a little easier.

This made the role of the teacher harder.  Want some help?  What version of Moodle are you using? "Dunno".

I am curious now.  I cannot find docs information in the link that Mary used to determine it was 2.6.  

And this site of Padram's: this is why I love Moodle!!  Some random institution in a great place to visit can access at low cost this powerful software and it can be run by people who don't need to know everything.  微笑

Derek - it is still possible to get the Moodle version by deliberately finding a page which will link to the documentation (such as an error message trying to access a page you don't have permission to) You can do this without being logged in but if you are logged in, you just need to find a page with the docs link at the bottom of the page and it will send you directly to the version of your Moodle.
