"Mail now" not working for forums and announcements

Hi everyone!

We've had a bug for a while (running Moodle 2.5) where the "Mail now" option doesn't send on forum posts. I click "mail now" and it still goes into the daily digest. It was working several months ago but hasn't been functioning since July I would say.

Anyone have a clue as to what could be causing this? We'd really like some posts to go out separately (i.e., ones from the teacher for a specific deadline, etc.). THANKS!

Hi Bonnie,

please take a look here http://docs.moodle.org/25/en/Using_Forum#Mail_now and check how "mail now" option works where mail digest has been enabled for users..

In this situation, "Mail now" has no sense at all!

Hi Andreas,

Thank you -- good point. I wish there were a way for people to get a digest but STILL be able to get a "mail now" post for something important that we want to stand out.

Does anyone know if a developer would be able to set up this kind of thing? Force a post to go out separately?

I  think that feature is coming, I'm sure I read about it somewhere, possibly in a tracker, maybe keep an eye on the 2.7 release notes smile

You can use moodle messaging system through participants.

Visit "Participants", select users and then select "Send a message". This message will be sent through email at the same time.

Depending on how the System Administrator has restricted (or not) user options in messaging and how the user has configured their messaging options, messaging should not be relied on to send an email to users all at once as some users may have opted out of emails in their messaging options, preferring instead an alert badge indicator or a popup which they won't see until the log in.

The only way to email all users a message is to send an email unfortunately. If your Moodle system has an email tool configured like Quickmail it is easy enough.

I think the original idea of a setting which would allow the override of the user's preference for receiving forum posts (of which the announcement is a specialized type) is a good one.

I'll take it one step further and say it would be nice if the Administrator could define multiple times for digests to be sent.
