Issue with current Moodle.org

This didn't happen until recently.  I started getting this error:

"You are not authorized to view this page"  Whenever I try to access Moodle.org.

I'm not sure what is going on here, but I have to refresh multiple times or restart the browser for it to work, but then it happens again.

IE 6.0

I've not changed anything here.  It sounds like something local to you, perhaps a strange IE setting.  Try a different browser.

Some IPs and IP ranges are blocked that way automatically, because they were spamming the server with hits to mirror the site or attempt to bring it down. It's possible you might be using one of those IPs right after a "baddie" was.

Or alternately you are a "baddie" yourself, I guess. 眨眼 眨眼

If you find out another reason please let me know!

Well....I'm not a "baddie" smile ... but this is happening pretty consistently when I use IE 6.0.  In fact, just now I connected with IE and experienced the problem...I refreshed a couple of times and then got a screen that read "No Dice!".

It has happened from my home connection and my work connection...different IPs.
It doesn't happen when I use Netscape 7.1, so it does seem to be a problem related to IE. Also, I never had the problem prior to the upgrade to 1.5.

It's no big deal....just want you to know I'm not a "baddie"....I think  IE may be the "baddie"  in this case. smile

At home I use Firefox (without a probelm). At school, IE.

Guess we'll be cleansing those school computers pretty soon!

OK, I'm pretty sure this is not you guys at all, but rather my dosevasive module, which is trying to protect the server from rapidfire requests.  

IE seems to send a lot more requests for repeating images in some pages (like the little +/- icons on blocks) than Firefox does, and this seems to be tripping the protective system which then locks you out for ten seconds.

I've tweaked the parameters a bit, so moodle.org should be more forgiving now.

I've also put contact details on the "No dice" page (Error 403), so please email me if it comes up again.

Hi,

Have you checked for parasites (spyware, adware, hijackers, optimizers,etc)? Usually when students and faculty start reporting the "forbidden" page errors, it is often due to a parasite, particularly since it happens with IE and not non-IE browsers.

The other problem might be due to a recent Windows update. This is a tip posted on another CMS's website:

HTTP 403 Forbidden or Access Denied Errors

When trying to log in, some users have reported getting "403 Forbidden" or "Access Denied" error messages.

One possible cause is an Internet Explorer 6 update installed by Windows Update. Some users found that this problem could be resolved by changing an Internet Explorer setting:

  1. In Internet Explorer, from the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Under Browsing, clear the checkbox for Show friendly HTTP error messages.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Restart the Internet Explorer browser.
